She was rather self-contained and was not part of the general hi-jinks that centered upon Andy on the set.” Highly professional and a fine comedienne, fine actress with very individual character. Television producer Sheldon Leonard once described her as “a rather remote lady. But other times I get a lift when I realize that I’m really doing quite well.” Sometimes it gets me down to think I’ve lost my own identity and my identity as an actress. Once a few years ago I was really vicious in a ‘Lone Ranger’ episode, but so many people wrote in outrage at what I was doing, I guess it was a mistake. “Once in a while,” Bavier told The Charlotte News, “I get a hankering to play a really bad woman. She elaborated the point in an interview with a reporter for a newspaper in Charlotte. Bavier herself once told an interviewer: “I had played Aunt Bee for 10 years and it’s very, very difficult for an actress or actor to create a role and be so identified that you as a person no longer exist, and all the recognition you get is for a part that’s created on screen.” Her behavior may have partly stemmed from that serious training as an actor and the conflict she may have felt for the notoriety “Aunt Bee” gave her. Griffith was quoted as saying he and Bavier sometimes clashed during their time on the set together, but he said during a 2003 appearance on “Larry King Live” that Bavier telephoned him a few months before her death to apologize for occasionally being “difficult” to work with. Some speculate Bavier felt her talents were overlooked. She was a pro’s pro, but was suddenly thrown into a show with the 5-year-old Howard and the Mount Airy-born Griffith, who first earned stardom with his rollicking, Hicksville-inspired “What It Was, Was Football” monologue. Bavier was a trained stage performer who knew Broadway’s ins and outs. There’s little doubt Bavier had a love-hate relationship with Aunt Bee, an unmarried, dowdy, homespun woman whose kitchen skills - despite her struggles in the pickle department, the focus of one of the show’s most popular episodes - and star-crossed romances were prominent features of the sitcom. That cast, which of course included Griffith - who got his start with comedic monologues - and Knotts, one of the most popular comedic actors in history, perhaps made an odd mix when factoring in the New York-trained Bavier.Ī brief marriage earlier in Bavier’s career didn’t produce any children Howard, who played Opie, was once quoted as saying he didn’t think “she enjoyed being around children that much.” Numerous stories, some likely apocryphal, are told of Bavier’s clashes with her fellow actors and directors on the show, where she’s described as professional but rather aloof from the hijinks-loving cast. Aunt Bee takes over management of Andy’s household and becomes Opie’s surrogate mother and grandmother. In the show’s premiere episode, “The New Housekeeper,” Aunt Bee returns to Mayberry from Morgantown, West Virginia - coincidentally, the real-life birthplace of Knotts - after Andy’s housekeeper marries and moves away. Bavier was cast as Aunt Bee, the paternal aunt of the widower sheriff. 3, 1960, “The Andy Griffith Show” made its debut on CBS. That episode (the program was subsequently renamed “The Danny Thomas Show”) starred actors Andy Griffith and Ron Howard, who were portraying a North Carolina sheriff named Andy Taylor and his son, Opie it served to introduce the new characters to a large TV audience. “Aunt Bee” - it’s typically styled “Bee,” instead of “Bea,” even though the character’s name was Beatrice - was launched after she was cast, not as Aunt Bee, but as a character called Henrietta Perkins, in an episode on Danny Thomas’s long-running “Make Room for Daddy” sitcom. Along the way, she won an Emmy Award, in 1967, as Outstanding Supporting Comedy Actress for that role her costar, Don Knotts, also won for comedic supporting actor the same year, one of the five Emmys he’d collect for his portrayal of Deputy Barney Fife. Of course it was Bavier’s 10-year stretch - the longest of any Mayberry character - as Aunt Bee on “The Andy Griffith Show” and its spinoff, “Mayberry R.F.D.,” that brought her fame and instant recognizability. It marked a full-time shift to television and film work for Bavier, which had begun a year earlier with her role in the science fiction classic, “The Day the Earth Stood Still.” In her final Broadway role, she starred alongside Henry Fonda in “Point of No Return,” the year-long run of which ended in 1952. But working in vaudeville and getting her first role on Broadway (in the play “The Poor Nut”) at the age of 22 led to expanded stage work that included roles on and off the Big Apple’s Great White Way and even trips to entertain World War II troops in the Pacific with the USO. Frances Bavier was born in 1902 near Gramercy Park - a few blocks south of Central Park - in New York City.

Do not take the test until you get all of your practice test questions correct. This will give you the confidence you need to move forward with the test. Your answers are graded as you take the test so you won’t have any doubt regarding which subjects you know and which ones you don’t. You know that thing well and you’re ready to move forward. If you do know the answer, you can cross that subject off your list. You’ll need to study that question some more before you go into the MVC and take the test. If you can’t think of the answer, give your best guess and write it down. You will see questions about warning, informational, guide, emergency, and regulatory road signs, as well as answers for each question. When you drive around the roads in NJ, you encounter various signs, and the majority of them are included in this practice test. This is the best way to get ready for the test. The questions on the official test may be worded a little differently, but the context is the same. Each of the road signs comes directly from the official NJ MVC driver’s handbook so it will be just as if you’re sitting for the actual exam when you do this practice test. Get all of the practice that you require with this prep test. This is the opinion of John Boyle.Practice makes perfect when it comes to sitting your NJ MVC Permit Exam. If you get the yellow and can safely stop, it's a good idea. Now, I don't want to be responsible for a slew of motorists gunning it when they see a yellow light, so be reasonable, folks. "If you are in the intersection when it is yellow and it turns red, you have not entered an intersection with a red light and thus have not violated the law." "It is illegal to enter an intersection with a red light," Johnson said. "They had already completely entered the intersection when it turned red and thus were not in violation." "I have won my cases by showing my clients passed the plane of the intersection - in other words they were not entering the intersection when it was red," Johnson said. More: Answer Man: North Carolina road surfaces rougher than other states? Johnson told me, the statutes on this get pretty complicated, as part of North Carolina general statute 20-158 says essentially that you must come to a stop at a red light, and another part "warns of a yellow signal but carries no penalty." Also, the law makes it clear that running a red light is illegal.īut as local attorney Sean A. The law essentially says the yellow light is a warning that the traffic signal is about to turn red. Red light followup: So last week I wrote up an Answer Man about whether or not it's illegal to run a yellow light as it turns to red. "So the idea is the ability to recognize the shape of the sign or a distinct color would help you to recognize what the sign is for." "It is in the event there's something like weather or an obstructed view where you couldn't read what is on the signage," said Binta Cisse, a North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles spokeswoman. More: Answer Man: On driver's license, what does 'Not for federal identification' mean? It does include a question in which you're asked to identify road signs that are blank. Real answer: Yes, this is an odd little quirk in the driver's test. Got it wrong of course, but still passed. My answer: I'm not going to lie here - I was so baffled by this myself the last time I took the test I just freaked and skipped it, assuming that I was going blind but not wanting to alert DMV. Question: Please explain the rationale behind taking a North Carolina driver's license renewal test that asks you to identify road signs that are blank. Today’s batch of burning questions, my smart-aleck answers and the real deal: In other words a heavier load for shorter periods. I mainly use this system for 12 volt water pumps,a few LED’s and cfl lights and occasionally power tools. The reason I ask is: I have 90 watts of harbor freight panels, run thru a sunsaver controller that charges 2 wally world deep cycle batteries and the gravity has almost never been below the green level, and I never really have had to add much water. If the ebay link is dead, I will try to find another. If the gravity of each cell stays relatively the same (usually all in the green) does that mean that I don’t need to equalize that battery? I have not yet used the fuel guage from the second link so I can't say whether it actually works as advertised. It differs from the first link as the first one is a charger as well and protects from over charge and over discharge and protects from short circuit. It measures the impedance and current of your battery pack. The second link is to an interesting looking fuel guage. However, I have only done full charge/recharges maybe 5 or 6 times and after that it has been 30 or 40 partial charges/recharges. I doubt it is coloumb counting or I think that it would get more accurate. It has problems with accuracy under about 3.5 volts as the batteries tend to be closer to empty than the pcb thinks, so it always reports abouts 30% remaining when it is closer to 20%. It is far from perfect, but more accurate now. After that it got more and more accurate with each charge/discharge cycle. On the second discharge, it read the capacity as 0% at 3.5 volts, and still allowed discharge until about 3.1 volts before it stopped the discharge. When first connected it charged the battery to 4.2 volts and shut down, but read the capacity as only 85%. Like I said before in the comments, the first one does more than just measure voltage and then approximate the capacity. I'll put the links in an answer so I don't run out of room again. Also, on batteries with multiple jacks, you'd have to have a separate counter for each output you used. This would probably be able to track total energy charged/discharged, but it wouldn't have a reference point, so it still wouldn't be able to tell you remaining charge. Wire a coulomb counter in series with the battery. Even close to being dead, it'll probably still read 5V. Using an ADC to directly read the voltage on the battery output, but this probably wouldn't work since the output from the battery is regulated at 5V. If you wanted to wire one of these into a microcontroller or SBC so the system could report remaining charge, is the only option to break one open, hope you don't destroy it in the process, and hope the charging circuitry is hackable? Unfortunately, they're designed for consumer uses like recharging cell phones, and not for tinkering, so there's no formal interface for getting battery status. Meanwhile, there are a ton of relatively cheap, small, high capacity Lipo battery packs with a convenient USB jack for charging and discharging. What's the easiest, least intrusive way to monitor voltage, charging status, and remaining charge of a USB battery pack?īattery packs and charging circuits for mobile projects can be complicated and expensive to design. Chill the bottom crust – After you assemble the bottom pie crust, gently wrap loosely with plastic wrap and place into the fridge or the freezer.Place into the pie shell, trim off any excess dough with kitchen shears, roll under edges and crimp with your fingers or a fork. Roll out the pie dough – Roll out the pie dough into about a 12-inch diameter.Make the crumb topping – Crumb topping can be refrigerated in a large zip-style bag or even frozen.Make the pie crust ahead of time and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Make the pie crust – The pie dough is best super chilled.Pie Crust – Use homemade or store-bought pie crust.Cinnamon & Nutmeg – Warm spice of cinnamon and nutmeg adds a touch of spice to your pie.We use instant tapioca, as it dissolves fully. Tapioca – Tapioca is used to thicken the pie filling.Sugar naturally draws out the flavor and juice of fruit. Sugar – Adjust the sugar based on how tart or sweet your peaches are.If using frozen peaches, do not thaw before making the pie filling. Peaches – Use fresh or frozen peaches.Perfect homemade dessert – This pie recipe is the perfect holiday dessert or any occasion. No need to cook the pie filling – There’s no need to cook the peaches before placing in your unbaked pie shell!.Make ahead of time – Bake your pie the night before to save time!.Made with simple ingredients – Readily locate the ingredients in your local grocery store or fresh peaches from the farmers market.Easy to make pie recipe – Takes only minutes combine the ingredients!. The project went through difficulties due to regulatory approvals and fears of it being anti-competitive. The platform was formed from an ambitious project between the UK's four terrestrial broadcasters that started in 2008, originally titled Project Canvas. The BT TV service and Ultra HD YouView set top box package was among the first to offer 4K content beamed straight to your living room. BT uses YouView software for their subscription service BT TV, and provide their own additional offerings to their subscribers through their own branded YouView set-top boxes. YouView PVR set-top boxes are sold at retail, or built into certain Sony Bravia TV sets, and the service has no contract or subscription. Upon telephone consultation after 2 months (day 63), he reported he felt well and was back to work in shifts, with no residual symptoms, no restrictions, and no medication. Consequently, the MOG antibody titer decreased and MRI lesions were resolving. The headache improved with analgetic treatment and i.v. Further laboratory examination revealed a serum MOG antibody titre. Brain MRI and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis were suggestive for encephalitis. Neuropsychological testing revealed distinct executive deficits. Case presentationĪ 22-year-old male, with PCR confirmed Covid-19 infection was admitted because of persistent headache. Here, we describe a unique case of a young man with Covid-19 and transient MOG-positive encephalitis, with a benign course. While Covid-19 predominantly affects the respiratory system, neurological manifestations including encephalitis occur in some patients, possibly affecting the course and outcome of the disease. I wouldn't consider the AC10C1 as a "full tube" or "all valve" amp.Īnd I would be happy, if the manufacturers were more honest to their customers and avoid those terms in their marketing if they replace tubes with op-amps for gainstages or phase inverter. If you want all-tube gain stages, real spring reverb, and classic 60s VOX tone, checkout the AC15C1. (The low-level reverb buffers U1A and U1B are fine at 5 volts.)Īll in all, a very satisfying solution. This JFET stage will be as transparent as an op-amp, but at lower cost as it doesn't require the +-15 volt supply an op-amp would need in this position. This gain recovery boost is done very cleanly with JFET Q1, whose gain is limited to such modest level by the large un-bypassed 47K source resistor R25. So Vox needed to drop the tone stack output by a factor of five (R84, R85, U1A) to reach line-level (+- 1 volt), and then boost it again after unity-gain reverb mixer U1B by a similar factor of four to drive the 12AX7 phase inverter V3. These digiverb chips are typically driven from +5 volts, and this one is no exception. Otherwise Vox *is* Korg, and they could get an excellent - perhaps better - sounding digital 'verb at very nominal cost. Vox *could* have sourced a real spring tank at $15 + two more quad-section op amps and related circuitry, and if that's what you want by all means check out the AC15C1. Tone, reliability, and price-point are key: this is a budget amp. To appreciate JFET Q1 you have to back up and look at the reverb block. It would sound just as good, but good in a Fendery sort of way, not Vox.ģ. Vox *could* have used the right side of V2 as an input stage rather than Q4, and driven the tone stack directly from the left side of V2 like black face Fender. But boost pedal is not classic 60's Vox tone.Ģ. Pushed with a boost pedal they'll be different, which one better being a matter of taste. left side of V2) both perform so similarly clean you won't tell the difference. Input JFET Q4 is low signal where noise counts, and plugged straight into a guitar the signal level is so low both it and a "standard" 12AX7 stage (e.g. Tubes are expensive and JFET's are pennies, dead silent, and extremely reliable. At $15 per + socket + board space + QA + additional service. Indeed, Vox *could* have used a third 12AX7 instead of the JFETs. (So do I.) From beginning to end, input in to speak jack out, this circuit delivers, in a most elegant fashion.ġ. Vox wanted "classic Vox AC10 tone" at budget amp cost. Comes down to price point and design goals.
